My 3DS has been this way for about a month and a half, although I've finally broken. It's starting to kill me.
About a month and a half ago, I was playing Mario Kart 7 with my little brother when I suddenly lost control and fell of the track. I tried to keep racing but my character would change direction and just do the most random things. I shut my 3DS off in panic and then turned it back on.
It is now on the home screen. All the animations are working, and I even got a spotpass notification today, signifying that it must be connected to the internet. However, there is no sound at all and I can't move the cursor.
I had dropped it about 30 minutes prior to the screw up although it was less than a foot in height from where I dropped it to where it fell. I don't recall spilling any sort of liquid on it, but something may have happened.
I called Nintendo Customer Support and they said they weren't sure about the problem and that I could send it in and, if, I were to get a new one, I could get my games and stuff by transferring my NN info.
As I said, everything looks fine but it has no sound and I can't do anything.
All help is appreciated. A photo of what it looks like is also provided just in case:
