3DS seems to be charging but won't turn on... Help?

My 3DS has been pretty well cared for, if anything it's been neglected. I lost the AC adapter for it so it hasn't been charged for a long time. I bought one at EBGames and decided to charge it. No lights turned on it was completely unresponsive.

I decided to trouble shoot a bit with a tester to see if it was worth sinking any more money into. I tested the brand new AC adapter, it's working. I plugged it into the unit and touched the tester to the copper pads beside the plug in and it reads 4.94v. While plugged in, the leads that touch the battery read 1.09v.  After leaving it charging for a day the battery reads 0.00. So clearly the battery isn't holding any charge, but there is power going to it.

So, I go back to EBGames and ask for a battery and the only thing they had available was nYko power pack for 14 bucks. I slap it on my 3DS and it works. Turns on boots up. I'm thrilled. I turn it off and leave it plugged in for about 5 hrs. When I check on the battery life by unplugging it. It shows 1 bar. Almost dead. At first I thought it might be an error so I play for a while to see if the battery is in fact low. 20min of play and the thing shuts off.

Now the 3ds refuses to turn on. But at least when I plug it in. The orange plug light turns on. With the original battery nothing happened at all. When I test the leads on the NYKO pack it's reading 2.87v so it managed to charge it right?

if it turned on and worked before why not now?

I'm confused. I'm at the end of my warranty. I just logged onto this site and saw warranty can be extended 90 more days. I just did that. The unit barely has any scratches and is in great condition. I would hate for this to be a paperweight I have a lot of games on it installed. Some old favs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Every youtube video I see seems to have the power issue where it pops and shuts off. I only saw one with the same problem as mine where the charge light is on but the blue light and screens don't respond at all.20150301_152445.jpg
