Okay, so my situation is a little weird, so bear with me. I bought a 3ds at the beginning of this year, specifrially the Zelda XL. I ende dup selling it and giving it to a friend, he in turn now sold it back to me since he wants to do PC gaming instead. So I kept my Pokemon Y, and I kept the SD card. The problem I'm wondering is I reformated the device, after getting it back then inserted my SD card, it said something about setting it up and when I went to the Data management nothing was on it, so I checked Pokmemon Y and everything was there like I remember. The question I have is did it format the SD card, in turn removing it from it? or is the data on there and the 3DS can access it. cause if it's on there that bothers me knowing it's there and not accessible.
