Pikachu 3DS XL

Hi, the other day my Pikachu 3DS somehow got a part of it chipped off on the white paint on the hinge and I called Nintendo to set up a repair but they said if they can't fix it then they would just send me a replacement 3DS without telling me that they couldn't fix it... Im really worried about sending it in now because I don't want to lose it since its a special edition. Do you think they could fix it without replacing the whole thing? It's a very small chip in the paint but it just bugs me knowing its there. I tried posting a picture but it wouldn't work
